  • Top 100 Reords of 2010, according to me..

    31 Dec 2010, 09:18 by AllRoadsLead

So..Tis the eve of a new year already, time to present the list culminating from 12 months of aural stimulation..It's construction has been an arduous task yet again, what with this year being my least favourite for quite some time, and also due to the fact that I started compiling quite late in the day, so to speak..But, each of those is a different story than that to be told here, and so without further ado, the following list is divided into three segments, each being sorted on an alphabetical basis alone..The first echelon is composed of my personal favourites, the central list makes up the top 50, being followed by those 50 that will complete the 100..I hope you enjoy, and here's to a fortunate new year for all those that want it!!

A Forest of Stars - Opportunistic Thieves of Spring
Altess - L' homme de Février
    Balmorhea - Constellations
Blindead - Affliction XXIX II MXMVI
    Celeste - Morte(s) Nee(s)
    Hidden Orchestra - Night Walks
Land of Talk - Cloak and Cipher
Les Fragments De La Nuit - Demain C'Etait Hier
  • Desperate for that Autumn Vibe

    13 Oct 2010, 07:45 by chrisjrichards

It's been really hot and sunny here, almost abnormally so for October but gradually it's starting to get colder. I'm looking forward to the days when I get to see yellow and orange leaves against grey skies. It's the time of year when it's grey and we start cooking hot soups again, digging wolly jumpers out of the cupboard and getting cosy on dark nights.

The trouble is, that description is just a description of autumn and winter and what I'm feeling is a larger vibe/theme/feeling that covers lots of situations, sounds and images. I probably sound a bit crazy.

So I've been doing a fair bit of music hunting this month, trying to find artists that capture or represent this feeling for me. I feel I've had quite a bit of luck so far with

    Loscil
    Helios
    Near The Parenthesis
    Slow Dancing Society
    Yellow6

The next step is perhaps picking out the tracks that really distil this essence, pop them in a playlist and add a load of descriptive photos?

  • Rotations (December 14)

    14 Dec 2008, 14:54 by liftmuziek

And all of a sudden, December is upon us. Time to make that Best of 2008 list, huh? Well, I'll be spending the next couple of weeks catching up to the albums that I may have accidentally missed during the year, so as to make sure and include everyone in my list that deserves for making this year one of the best ones in music. Meanwhile, here's another installment of Rotations, with some interviews linked back to Headphone Commute. Among the genres covered below, I've got folktronica and laptop americana from Silent Land Time Machine; excellent experimental neofolk from Paavoharju; abstract rhythmic noise from Wurlitztraction; cut-up glitch and IDM from Gescom; floating space music from Benn Jordan; psybient and dark beats from Integral; beautiful piano playing by Goldmund; majestic modern classical from Library Tapes; future jazz from Juxta Phona & Offthesky; ambient downtempo from The Remote Viewer; instrumental hip-hop and turntablism from 40 Winks; experimental modern classical masterpiece…
  • Pocket Change Records Label Profile

    Pocket Change Records
A glimpse of the future in an interview with an internet label.

Post Rock, Ambient, Instrumental, Experimental, Electronic, Psychedelic, Analogue Noise. These are the sounds. The theme running through them, that binds all of Pocket Change Records’ releases so far, from the very first Wreaths to the current (at time of writing) Talbot Arms, is one of an enveloping atmosphere. The ultimate goal of soundscape artists is to build a bubble that refracts the world beyond it; the wall of sound the speakers throw up doubling as a blank canvas for the listener to project synaesthetic accompaniment, an emotional relationship that invests itself in the narrative of the album that needs silence for reflection and solace after the music finishes.

Now that the MP3 is king of formats the rise and potential dominance of the net label is inevitable, free music is about to mean something more that just piracy and theft. Pocket Change is a free-download net label run by San Francisco based 21 year old Bobbi Westfield. …

  • Пост-рок) такой разный)

    11 Apr 2008, 19:06 by maple03

Giraffes!
