It's in the order of their hedgerows
It's in the way their curtains open and close
It's in the look they give you down their nose
All part of decency's jigsaw I suppose

Here's a page about this song. But is the tab really as it was played for the recording? Andy's intro alternated between a B or B5 and this C# based chord which I'm not quite sure of yet but the bottom four notes are correct: 9.8.9.0.0.x or 9.8.9.0.7.x. http://chalkhills.org/reelbyreal/s_RespectableStreet.html

I'm just now realizing the similiarities between Andy Partridge and Joe Jackson, vocally speaking.

The live version of this from URGH! A Music War is too good.

@gmpwca: Single version. Anyway, I tend to recommend "Black Sea" as one's first XTC album and this superb opening track is a big reason why.

but strange that in this version it's "what proposition pleases best her old man" the version sung on my copy of the album says "sex position"

fantastic ... my newest favorite from this band. The list gets longer and longer. The chorus vocals sound like tears for fears vocalist to me... even more so than XTC ... the music and lyrics are ALL XTC though.

i'm surprised by how hard this still rocks. the drums are just huge. this song reminds me a lot of "in on the kill taker" era fugazi

What a defined band sound... I wasn't even looking at the screen when I was thinking.... "This sounds like XTC"... and that was before the singing ever started...
