There are three bands with this name:

1) A Los Angeles, all-star, rock band specializing in a roughly-hewn but melodic brand of punk-based hard rock in the mid 1990s. Wool formed when brothers Pete Stahl and Franz Stahl (vocals and guitar, respectively) found themselves in LA, dissolved their DC band Scream and teamed up with former Government Issue drummer Peter Moffett (the Scream drummer immediately bailed and joined Nirvana) and Concrete Blond bassist Al Bloch. The quartet’s first offering was an EP, 1992’s rollicking Budspawn, which was released independently on External Records. The material on Budspawn combined the four members’ inherent punk aesthetics with a tendency toward more straight-ahead, anthemic hard rock and drug-induced psychedelia.

Following a lineup change in which drummer Moffett was replaced by new, energetic skinsman Chris Bratton (Chain of Strength), WOOL were signed to London Records in the newly punk-friendly climate of 1993. The band recorded Box Set and released it the next year. Following in the footsteps of its predecessor, Box Set expanded on the basic blueprint of Wool’s already established sound; surprisingly pop-friendly throughout, Box Set could have easily succeeded alongside the Stone Temple Pilots or Green Day of its time, yet the album spawned no real hits; this despite the label’s promotion of the track “Kill the Crow” both on radio and MTV. After a less than enthusiastic commercial response to Box Set and an overall lack of visibility, Wool split in 1995. Soon after, guitarist Franz Stahl joined former Scream band mate Dave Grohl for a year long world tour in the Foo Fighters, replacing Pat Smear.

ah Wool. they weren't around long enough. I saw them play twice in Vancouver... the 2nd time it looked like they hated each other! I'll never forget them finishing a show with "Chances Are". powerful.

I'm shocked at the small amount of listeners! Box Set is a classic album, highly under appreciated.
