Wolfmother is a Grammy Award-winning hard rock band formed in Erskineville, Sydney, Australia in 2003. The band originally consisted of Andrew Stockdale (guitar, vocals), Chris Ross (bass, keyboards), and Myles Heskett (drums), though Ross and Heskett left the band in August 2008. With the original lineup Wolfmother released one album, Wolfmother, and six singles, the highest-charting of which was "Joker And the Thief" which reached #8 in Australia.

In 2004, Wolfmother began appearing at several high profile music events, such as Homebake and the Big Day Out. They also released their debut self-titled EP through Modular Recordings.

In 2005, the band made their way to LA, working alongside producer Dave Sardy (of Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Marilyn Manson and Oasis fame) to record their much-hyped self-titled debut album, released in October 2005.

In 2006, Wolfmother played at the Roskilde Festival, quart festival, as well as T in The Park, Reading and Leeds festivals and Rock Werchter. In august of 2006, Wolfmother also played at the German Hurricane and Southside festivals, the Dutch Lowlands festival and Lollapalooza in Chicago and the Rock en Seine festival in Paris. And in the Azkena Rock Festival '06 in Vitoria (Spain).
They also played together with Pearl Jam

Also in 2006, Wolfmother dominated the Australian Recording Industry Association awards (ARIAs), taking out Best Breakthrough Album, Best Rock Album, and Best Group.

In August 2008, after headlining the Splendour in the Grass festival in Byron Bay, Australia, bass/keyboard player Chris Ross and drummer Myles Heskett resigned, leaving just singer/guitarist Andrew Stockdale. Andrew plans to find new musicians before recording another album.

The track The Joker and the Thief has been featured in the games Need For Speed: Carbon, Rock Band, and MLB07: The Show. It has also been heard in several movies, including The Hangover (2009).

As of February 2009, the new wolfmother line up appeared in two secret gigs under the name of 'Whitefeather'. The band officially consits of Dave Atkins on drums, Ian Peres on bass and organ and Aidan Nemeth as the surprise fourth member and a new guitarist.

The new line up performed two follow up gigs at Sounds Relief in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia in aid for all those that were affected by the Victorian Bushfires.

An update via their facebook/myspace profile showed that Wolfmother will be flying back out to LA to offically commence recording in April 2009 with a set release date of the fourth quarter of 2009. The producer of the second album is going to be Alan Moulder who famously worked with artists such as Nine Inch Nails, Smashing Pumpkins and My Bloody Valentine.

In April 2009, Andrew Stockdale publically announced that the next album will be called 'Cosmic Egg', which according to NME, was inspired by the position in Yoga and also has mythical relavence. He also confirmed that the album is expected in September 2009. His Twitter page suggests a double album and a massive 17 songs.
