Niagara Falls, Buffalo NY, United States (2003 – present)

Wisp (Reid Dunn) comes from Niagara Falls, New York. He makes electronic music that spans many genres, from jungle and experimental drum n bass to ambient and downtempo electronica. Nostalgic computer games bear an influence on his music. He began releasing music for free in 2003, in the form of mp3s on netlabels, but has since been signed to Sublight Records, and more recently (2008) he signed with Rephlex. His free mp3 releases are, however, still available on The Wisp Archive.

I haven't listened to enough Wisp to know which albums I like most, but so far The Shimmering Hour is my fav.

As Sculpy said, strange to see The Shimmering Hour with so few listens! Just put that on and listen to it all the way though. Definitely his best album to do so with.

I have no idea why Shimmering Hour is still so comparatively unknown. His best, I think, and one of the most beautiful, otherworldly records i've ever heard.

Like six or seven years ago is when I really buckled down and started really getting into music in a big way, and Shimmering Hour was one of the first albums that I found that wasn't like this pre-established masterpiece in all the elitist musical communities, like it was the first semi-obscure album that I really enjoyed without having a bunch of outside validation telling me why I like it. It was mine and it was a truly personal experience. Over time it became my official winter album. I dunno. I think Shimmering Hour really has a lot to do with the development of my tastes in music. Like the feelings that it gave me are the dragon that I chase to this day.
