It's Beatles Week! Day 3: Sir James Paul McCartney, MBE
I'll continue my salute to the individual members with Macca, the "most successful" Beatle. One who has never had a problem accepting the special exceptions and royal treatment afforded him in a life of privilege. Though I tend to be cut more from John and George's cloth and uncomfortable with special entitlements and luxe treatment, I can't really fault McCartney for feeling entitled to it because, frankly, he's earned it, unlike so many others.
For me, Paul is the one member of The Beatles that in my mind doesn't trigger that split-second association with "Beatles" like the others do. This may be because he has been (1) alive, (2) prolific, and (3) high-profile as a solo artist during the bulk of the time that I have been active as a music fan. …
