Sacramento, CA, USA (1995 – 2002, 2005 – present)

Will Haven is a / band from Sacramento, CA, USA that formed in 1995. The band was formed from members of Sock, a band that was formed with Shaun Lopez of Far, and is named after a fictional, self created character. Will Haven’s debut self-titled seven-track EP was released in 1996 to positive reviews. A year later the quartet was signed to Revelation. Singer Grady Avenell guested on two Far tracks - 9 Miles, and a cover of Band Aid’s Do They Know It’s Christmas Time? with Chino Moreno of Deftones.

1997 saw the release of full-length El Diablo bringing them an increasing amount of attention and a growing fanbase. In 1999, they released WHVN, arguably their heaviest album to date. The song Jaworksi is named after Red Tape frontman and friend Jeff Jaworksi, who was Jeff Irwin’s guitar tech at the time; and Slopez is named after Shaun Lopez, who was the guitarist for Far. During this time, the band recorded a track called The Regulator for the Bad Brains Never Give In tribute album, and toured with Deftones throughout Europe.

In 2000, long-time drummer Wayne Morse left the band. He was replaced by Mitch Wheeler. Later that year, Grady guested on Soulfly’s track Pain, to be featured on the album Primitive. Chino Moreno also guested on that track.

In 2001, they released the critically acclaimed Carpe Diem, which saw a world-tour promotion, headlining shows in the US, UK, and Japan, and playing the Vans Warped Tour in Australia. Single Carpe Diem featured Chino Moreno in the promotional video; similarly, members of Haven are in the promotional video for Deftones’ Bored, a single from their album Adrenaline.

Cool band. It's surprising for me that they haven't more listeners. I need some more listening to really get into it thought.

Voir Dire honestly is disappointing to me in retrospect. My favorite thing about Will Haven has always been their abstract style and atmosphere. Voir Dire just seemed, well kinda lame compared to the first three albums and ep to me. Still great music just didn't feel like the Will Haven I know and love.

Holy hell, I hadn't listened to these guys since WHVN... yes it's been a while. I am blown away by Voir Dire... what a rich and haunting piece of work, fucking brutal and painful.

it goes like this: El Diablo > EP > WHVN - then they changed drummer and it started going down hill. one of the greatest bands of all time for me... the raw fire and emotion. legends.

@Jayden_Patuckie: nobody is going to listen to your friends' band, due to your hideous abuse of parentheses. What the fuck do you think you're doing with them?!

I think Voir Dire is very different from their other albums, and may be my favourite. I certainly think it is their most balanced / complete album and love listening to it from start to finish. I tend to somewhat selectively listen to their previous albums, but only compared to Voir Dire. They need to tour again as soon as possible.
