Will Currie & The Country French are a young band from Waterloo, Ontario who have been making music and filling dance halls since 2008. The band’s heavy bass lines and danceable drum beats are held together by rhythmic piano and ripping guitar to support Currie’s infectious melodies.

Their exhilarating stage show caught the attention of Canadian rock band Sloan who promptly signed them to their label, Murderecords. Their debut EP, A Great Stage, was released and quickly garnered critical acclaim and earned the band a cult-like following. A cross-Canada tour with Sloan soon followed and both bands recorded the single ‘Push Pins’, which earned them a CBC Radio 3 Award for Best Collaboration.

Will Currie & The Country French have toured Canada several times, sharing the stage with many incredible artists including Dan Mangan, Tokyo Police Club, Arkells, Our Lady Peace, Zeus, Hey Rosetta!, Said The Whale, and many more.

The band recently joined the already impressive roster of artists under the label File Under: Music, and their full-length debut record Awake, You Sleepers! is to be released October 11, 2011.

I keep forgetting that nixes paragraph structure. Sorry for the wall of text below. Cliff notes: case of ambiguous band name producing multiple artist pages, should implement a better way to merge multiple artist pages.

I saw them a year and a half ago when they opened for Tokyo Police Club (oh, how things have changed for these two bands since then). They handed out free sampler CDs (which had Surprising Me, Centrefold, Honest People, and Thunder Bay Coastguard Radio, the four songs they played, naturally) and on the CD sleeve it also had the ampersand version of their name. I took that as correct and scrobbled all my plays as Will Currie & the Country French. Only after I scrobbled a bunch did I notice their other artist page. Both pages had about the same plays and didn't have any previews available at the time, so I just stuck with the ampersand. But now both pages have previews and this page has their album up and plays/listeners have skyrocketed... haha, all this thought just for scrobbling! Really, they should just introduce a system where users can vote or suggest to merge multiple artist pages.

Hmm, how do we merge Will Currie and the Country French with & The Country French and which is preferred? I notice there's an ampersand on the Great Stage album cover and the website. I believe I may have started the "and" version back in 2006.
