The War On War Songfacts says: “War On War” is about the need to experience (and consequently accept) failure, if you wish to live life to the full, as reflected in the lyric: “You have to learn how to die, if you want to want to be alive.” Wilco’s frontman and chief songwriter, Jeff Tweedy, told Crud Magazine: “I think somehow you need to get to a certain point in your life where the notion of failure is absurd.”

@rsidonioo1976 The first time I heard YHF I thought the same thing! Many of the songs have a Malkmus style to them.

Sometimes I wish Stephen Malkmus would join them and make this the best band in the world!

Didn't know they could play the didgery-doo like that ... :-) (you know, that Australian aboriginal thingy they swing around and make that odd, harmonically interesting noise with?)

Ive seen Wilco 7 times live. The first three or four times, it was for the YHF album. And this song KILLED every time. This was before the addition of Nels, and Pat and Mikail. Four guys: Tweedy, Leroy Bach, John Stirratt, and Glenn Kotchke...energetic and very raw.
