About this album
Sky Blue Sky was Wilco’s highest debuting album on the Billboard 200 at number four. The self-produced album received mostly favorable reviews by critics. Publications such as PopMatters and Rolling Stone praised its maturity, while PlayLouder and Pitchfork Media criticized its “dad-rock” sound. While some critics praised the direct lyrical approach, others criticised it when compared to previous Wilco albums. The band licensed six songs from the Sky Blue Sky sessions to a Volkswagen advertisement campaign, a move that generated criticism from fans and the media.

Sky Blue Sky is such a beautiful record, though I wouldn't say it's their best or their most arty, but it's sincere and simply touching. Some of these songs will always be with me. Plus, does anyone think that this record is somehow inspired by Hunky Dory/Ziggy Stardust-era David Bowie?

Hmm, I missed all the excitement. For what it's worth I absolutely second your opinion hotterthanjuly. I think alot of people miss the point with Sky Blue Sky, and that's sad because they miss out on such a warm, melodic, COHESIVE album. Wilco's back-catalogue is great, they really have something for every mood. Sky Blue Sky is just another gem to enjoy. Ever driven around on a warm summers day playing this album through in its entirety? It comes highly recommended.

The b-sides off this album (Let's Not Get Carried Away, One True Vine, The Thanks I Get, Glad It's Over) are actually better than some of the songs they kept (Shake It Off, Walken, What Light).
