Biography

Paris, France (2005 – 2013)

Whourkr was an experimental band from Paris which is on the frontier of / and // music. No lyrics, a dense sound, suffocating and poetic, the music aims at deep ecology and human issues.

The whole project starts in 2005 with Igorrr and Öxxö Xööx, two musicians from the new French electronic scene. The first album, Naät, which was recorded in their home studio, was released for the first time as an auto-production in 2007 despite the complaining of the neighbors and the visit of the police due to the noise. This album was officially released some time after by the Suprachaotic Records in 2009.

In 2008, Öxxö Xööx left the band to devote himself into his eponym personal project, but so far he has stayed a regular guest on all the albums. Shortly after, Yann Coppier, aka -I Snor, became the new singer of the band. He brought a fresh, side to the project. He was working on a WHOURKR’s live show and created the WHOURKR plug-in which gave a chance to reproduce all the music effects during the live show. He also recorded the Kruma track with Igorrr which you can find on the official release of Naät.

After 2 years of hard working, the “Concrete” album occurred as a perfect mix between / / . This album was released by the label Crucial Blast in 2009 in USA and one year after by Trendkill Records in Europe.

In 2011, after the Yann’s leaving, the new Line up has been created. Mulk, who was signed on Suprachaotic Records as well, and a friend of the band for years, became the second part of the duo. Mulk brought a distorted bass, a chopped saxophone and new voice which is much more guttural, pig-squeal and .

To people saying stuff like "Whourkr will never be dead I still like it!' that's not what dead means. Dead means the project is now defunct and will have no more releases.

https://shellshockuk.bandcamp.com/album/injected-into-the-hive-ep I can't help but link this...it's how I feel something this batshit crazy could be done in an amusing way. Not saying this demo is good, but it's amusing as hell and you guys might like how offbeat it is.

@CyberMusicLover Sure but I haven't really found anything like this. There are a few cybergrind like bands that are similar, but I've yet to find a clone.

"WHOURKR is now dead. For all people who supported us: Sorry for that. A huge thanks to Öxxö Xööx, -i snor and Mulk, these 3 persons made with me this project possible and brought a lot of fun in it. Thanks also to Ad Noiseam and Blood Music who found the braveness to release our music on their label. All the support we got all these years by you, I mean listeners, made this project alive and we are REALLY grateful of it. But after 8 years and 3 albums, a lot of experimentations and fun, Whourkr is now totally dead. We all are still active with our solo project though..." -Whourkr on Facebook, 4.4.13

As long as people still listen to this type of music then the projects are not dead because there is an interest still around for this type of music. I know that I am enjoying it a lot!!!

This is some of the most complex and still badass sound. It's a shame that this project is dead.
