White Witch

Formed in Florida by Buddy Richardson, a veteran of the Tampa scene (Outsiders, Soul Trippers and Noah’s Ark), White Witch played a mix of psychedelia, prog, power pop, Southern heavy rock and hard/glam rock, with painted faces, powerful vocals and some strange lyrics. Their two albums (on Capricorn Records) are highly rated by some, ignored by others. Flashy vocalist Ronn Goedert was renowned for his histrionics; he sounded like a more glam Robert Plant. Some say he influenced Axel Rose, but that’s debatable. Goedert passed away in 2000, as did keys man Buddy Pendergrass in 2003. Remaining members have played sporatically over the years. Check out “Home Grown Girl” from the fist LP. “Showdown”, “Class of 2000”, and “Walk On” from ‘Spiritual Greeting’.

Interesting !! No problem mixing styles (in this case... southern, hard rock, progressive rock, pop and psych) but even mixing styles ... a band need to set an identity and I could not see it clearly. Anyway worth knowing ...

my father went and saw these guys over in americus (georgia),they were playing a show back in the 70s (at the collage, which is still ther).he told me about them.another band that should have got more credit from capricorn records (#1 is obviously captain beyond) i think its funny, class of 2000 some would think have to do with the year and its all futureistic....but just shows you how old this band it.still sounds relavent.

By the way, if anyone found this page & was exited to find out White Witch had more than 2 albums. . . Don't be. "Never Dies The Dream" & "The Power" are not the same band.

"Hop inside my rocket ship and quickly we'll disperse, we've a jolly way to go to find the universe. A colouring book of things mistook as something of no worth, now the fog is clearing I can see Mother Earth" - how I love that lyric!
