This album was Warren Zevon’s last release written and produced after he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He knew he was dying and the song was written for his loved ones. Warren Zevon lived long enough to see his twin grandsons Max and Gus born. He was a musical genius as one of his previous releases was titled. ” I’m runnin’ out of breath, keep me in your heart for a while…” in this song , if you understand the background to its writing, was a gift to his loved ones prior to his passing… Warren Zevon has now passed on and his version on this same CD of ” Knockin’ on Heavens Door ” is especially fitting and moving as he says/singsin the song, “let me in, let me in…” …
