There are 2 bands named Wara:

1. Bolivian folklore band (active since the 70s)
2. Cuban funk band based in London (active since the 00s)

1. Bolivian folklore band active since the 1970s, whose brief tenure as a hard progressive rock band, mixed with andean rythms, meant a water mark for bolivian musicians to come.

The band originally were:
Carlos Daza: Guitar
Jorge Cronembold: Drums
Pedro Sanjines: Keyboards, Piano and Synth
Nataniel Gonzáles, Dante Uzquiano: Vocals

Omar León: Bass Guitar

“El Inca”, released in 1973 as their debut, is their best known and most innovative work to date. Joining masterfuly both andean structures with hard rock instrumentation, they achieved an extremely fresh sound, only similar to what their contemporaries Arco Iris and Jaivas were doing in Argentina and Chile, two countries with more prolific rock traditions. Such is the impact of this album that 35 years later it is still regarded as the best bolivian rock album ever and as a rarely fine collector’s delight worlwide.

Wara has remained together ever since, while shifting some members; but briefly after recording their impressive debut (one of the latin folk - progressive rock finest fusions) they shifted their interests toward purely native music and today they still play bolivian folk as well as their own pop-folk compositions (not related at all with their prog rock debut, which they however revisit from time to time).

El concierto de Wara Sinfónico de ayer fue increible...Wara con la orquesta sinfónica y el grupo autóctono se lucieron. Aymara, Nacimiento y Wara fueron los mejores temas.

Listen to their native music (pure bolivian, mostly acoustic, folk) and it will blow you away. Oh, and such is also a great introduction to the marvelous tunes that lay hidden in our deep heartlands. Greetings from Bolivia!
