call and response, glitch beats, found sounds, surf guitar, wailing and screechin!# this is the arty-80s that I loved so much.

Wow, knock it off with needing to compare all the time. They are their own band and they sound like Wall of Voodoo, end of.

Sounds like The B-52's and Devo.... Devo's song Shrivel-Up is very, VERY similar to this song.

The Aquabats' song "Monsters Wedding" takes some cues from this song. Very cool.

It amazes me how the guitar's melodic phrases, so audacious in contour and disregarding of key, somehow flow in symmetry and cadence. I don't know if the previous sentence makes sense - and I'm sure that even if it makes literal sense, anyone who has ever taken a college level music theory course can dispute me on it - but I also tend to think that any attempt to put into words the intensity and insanity of this song will undoubtedly fail. I love how each phrase repeats a couple of times and is then replaced by a new (and better) one, never to return again (with one exception: the phrase from 1:25 - 1:47 returns at 2:51, transposed up a fifth, and then back in its original glory at 3:03). The song reaches its climax when Ridgway adamantly exclaims, "You can't tell ME what to do!" Here, Ridgway powerfully asserts his own potency with as much sincerity as a frantic George Bailey. Of course Ridgway inadvertently speaks for the human race. It should go without saying. Amazing song.

can only second CountDegobineau: One of the greatest songs of the 80s! As fresh today as when I first heard it over 25 years ago. ...."they don't care about you anyhow" is sublimely said in "Arghh it's a music war!" See video above, you can't go wrong! / Urgh! A music war is THE BEST 80s music film!
