Pre-Waiting For The Bus
The core members of the band consisted of high school friends Jake Rae, Lucas Shipsides, Winston Ng and Andrew Onorato, under the name “Green Halo”. Rae (the band’s founding member) intended the group to be a rock outfit. “Green Halo” had a slow start, with no real singer and only a small repitoire of cover songs.
In 2006, the band changed their name to “Waiting For The Bus”, Rae instated himself as lead vocalist and the reinvented band showcased themselves at various events at their local school.
Later musical disputes led to Rae’s departure and “Waiting For The Bus” moved forward as an Indie Rock three-piece
”The Carpark” / “[EP]”
After establising a larger repitoire, the band entered and won a local ‘Battle Of The Bands’ competition at a local event named “The Carpark”. The prize, a 4 hour recording session at local recording/rehearsal studio “Jet Studios” enabled the band to create their first release “[EP]”, a 7 track cover EP. The band were also approached by established photographer Leigh Wilkins for their first professional promo shoot.
Being independantly released, “[EP]” sales were generally unsuccessful.
The band eventually went on “indefinate hiatus” due to other commitments. All members also started their own side projects.
Brighter Than Sunshine
In 2007, the members of “Waiting For The Bus” started to collaborate again, spawning new original material, culminating in 2008 with the creation of “Brighter Than Sunshine”, a 4 track EP. This release was recorded and mastered entirely at Shipsides’ home studio “Roadhouse Diner Manager”. Being another independent release, only a limited number of copies were sold, although “Black Star” was included on an overseas compilation.
After the creation of “Brighter Than Sunshine”, new material was being created for a sophomore original release. In late 2008 however, the band encountered more commitment problems, with Ng discontinuing his Music Performance elective at school and Onorato’s establishment of “The Mutha Funkers”, a porn-groove/jazz side project. Onorato’s further interest in jazz music led to his eventual departure from the band, leaving “Waiting For The Bus” as an indie rock musical duo.
