Taking their Influences from Streetsounds Electro Compilations, Kraftwerk, the soundtracks of John Carpenter, and early Hip Hop, VK released the “Real Men Use Carplan EP” on Panic Trax in 1997 (subsequently re-released as “Skinnycap” by Mighty Robot Recordings in 2006.
By the late 90’s, Voigt Kampff had become a larger collective after adding a string section to the line up, whilst also losing original member Lyken. The band line up was now Zoe Carter, Hannah Rougvie, Catriona Skinner, Andrew Balneaves, Stuart Ney and Daniel Kelly. This version of Voigt Kampff released an album of instrumental tracks entitled “Used” on Kingsize Records in 1998. This period was the most creative and successful for the band with gigs throughout the UK, including support slots with Spiritualized, James Lavelle (UNKLE), and an appearance at the In The City music festival in Manchester. During this time, Voigt Kampff also recorded two Evening Sessions for Radio Scotland. Voigt Kampff followed this up with 3 self funded and highly sought after EP releases.
2011 - Voigt Kampff were back to their original line up and working on new material when they were contacted by one particular record label about the possible release of some of their old and new material. However, due to contractual issues the band decided that they were not willing to accept this offer.
