Virgin Black is an australian gothic doom metal band.
Formed in Adelaide, Australia in 1995, Virgin Black’s line-up features

Rowan London (vocals, piano, keyboards),
Samantha Escarbe (lead guitar, cello),
Grayh (bass),
Luke Faz (drums).

After series of demo recordings in 1995/1996, the group began gaining international recognition with 1998’s “Trance” EP, eventually signing with The End Records a year later.

Boasting a complex, cinematic sound, both gothic and metallic in nature, their debut album “Sombre Romantic” followed in 2000 and saw their core line-up augmented by choirs and string sections in the studio, the better to embellish their grandiose mood metal.

The second album “Elegant…and Dying” is creating a sad, epic but romantic sound. The extremely emotional arrangements are further enhanced by Rowan London’s unique mournful yet poetic singing style. The songs are presented with numerous angles and at times coming out as soundtrack scores, at others as classical compositions or even as subtle weeping lullabies that make the music as dynamic as it is dark and passionate!

On March 10, 2006, The End Records announced in a press release that Virgin Black will be releasing three albums. The trio of albums is collectively titled Requiem.

SatanicPotato - I wouldn't call VB "Preachy". They write about what affects them, same as any other band does. If their Faith is such a huge obstacle for you then just stop listening to them and stop complaining endlessly about it. Seriously, everytime I visit this page you seem to be complaining and it never evolves beyond the exact same thing you say. I've encountered bands who's lyrics haven't sat well with me and so I decided I didn't want to listen to them no matter if I thought they were good or nor. I didn't go on and on about it, I got on with life and looked for other bands.

What is with everybody labeling virgin black a christian band? Most of their lyrics are about how organized religion has destroyed spirituality. They sing songs about raping jesus for fucks sake. They are less of a "christian" band than Ulver, or really any black metal band that borrows themes from christian theology and presents them in contrast to the corruption of the christian church.

Endlessly complaining about why Pianissimo hasn't come out yet will NOT speed up a release date. Instead of constantly berating the band for not doing what YOU want how about you show them some damn support and enjoy the CD's they have released. In time Pianissimo will be out and you can enjoy it, till then stop with the bickering.
