Time up my life …
So, in 1963 - 10 years old - first piano lessons. Have unfortunately little understood, but had two ears. Thanks to my tolerant and loving parents I could improvise day and night. Three years later, I invented the blues. My sister showed me chords on the piano and brought me recordings of Lightnin ‘Hopkins, Champion Jack Dupree, Taj Mahal and many other blues and boogie sizes.
The Blue Notes hit me with full force. At 16, I strolled through the bars at the harbor (onion, Aunt Hermione, River Checkout mats, etc). At the time I met Hans-Georg Moeller, who is now completely opened my ears to piano blues and boogie. The music was my life. I made all clubs unsure where standing around a piano. In one of these stores, I met one day Otto Waalkes, who took me as his opening act with wide into the great world. Not easy, but instructive!
In 1976, the first official laurels: I was officially recognized Boogie Freak, which means I got the German Record Critics’ Award for my first album, “The Boogie Man” - to Otto’s label Trunk Räckords. Some of the album was recorded in Hamburg’s legendary ‘factory’, where I played from now on for 14 years (!) Last Friday of every month.
In 1978 the second album “Blues’n Boogie”. In the same year with Inga Rumpf my first “Back to the Roots” trip to the USA. Met many good people and tried many pianos. 1979 the same again, Blues’n Boogie pure!
1980, Album No. 3: “Vince The Prince” on which I have worked all the impressions of these journeys. In between getting lots of club gigs and festivals together with such good people like Big Joe Williams, Abi Wallenstein, Henry Heggen, Axel Zwingenberger, Jay Mc Shann, James Booker, Chuck Berry and Champion Jack Dupree. By the way had a lot of fun as editor and presenter at NDR with my own show “Blues on Tuesday.”
In 1987, the 4th album “Boogie On A Blue Song”. Yes, otherwise repeatedly Blues travel to Chicago, LA and San Francisco. In 1991, the album No. 5: “Octoroon” und1995 of all my albums, the best songs on 2 CD’s “The Best Yet”. I hope you have fun with my music. Maybe we see us even once - until then.
