From the time Vin bought the tape that started his inspiration, “Raisin’ Hell” by Run DMC, Vin has been working to make an imprint in hip-hop. Hailing from Gary, IN, “murder capital of the 90’s”, Vin’s options in life appeared to be slim growing up with future hustlers, gangsters, and criminals. Not to mention, he fit the perfect stereotype of an urban black child: raised by a single mother on food stamps, on the wrong path by his teenage years, angry and frustrated. His mother put him out at age 17, and it was then that he learned what the streets were REALLY about. Homeless and forced to

“get it” the best way he could, Vin lived in the streets for almost 2 years, often sleeping at the Metro Center. It was during this time that Vin really began to focus on his lyricism as an artist with Outside Productions, which eventually evolved into the rap group, Outside, with Finger Roll & C-Saw. After parting ways with Outside due to financial obligations, Vin once again turned back to the streets to hustle with his partner Felony. Ironically, it was due to the positive influence of his mother that Vin found a job and was able to get back onto his feet. Not hurting for money any longer, Vin formed an independent record label in 2000, Ambush Records. The 2000 artist roster included: Vin, Silence, Redd Diggy, Jack Danielz, Average Joe, Lil Dirt, K/OZ, and Felony. This is the same roster that created the regional classic CD, “Tha Struggle” which went on to sell more than 3,000 units with only word of mouth promotion! Vin had a vision: to have an indie label that would invest more and more in itself, eventually only needing a minimal amount of outside resources.
