Boston, United States (1990 – present)

Vertical Horizon is an band that was formed in 1990 by Georgetown University undergrads Matthew Scannell and Keith Kane. They’re best known today for their 1999 mega-hit “Everything You Want”, which was #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. After their graduation in 1991, the duo relocated to Boston, in which they got started seriously recording. In 1992, they self-released their debut album, titled ‘There and Back Again’, which they had recorded in Matt’s old high school over a period of a few days.

Matt and Keith together played all the instruments appearing on that album, with its name taken from ‘The Hobbit’ by J.R.R. Tolkien, though they both mostly played acoustic guitar. Both also contributed to writing all the songs and both sang for ‘There and Back Again’. The duo toured for several years after this, mostly appearing with similar bands such as Jackopierce. By 1995, they were ready to record again. The resulting album, titled ‘Running on Ice’, again had Matt and Keith playing acoustic guitar and singing, but it also featured the addition of other guest musicians to play other instruments. Guests included members of Jackopierce band as well as Carter Beauford (of the Dave Matthews Band) on drums.

More touring followed, and soon Matt and Keith were joined by Ed Toth on drums. In 1997, a live album, Live Stages, was released. This featured Matt, Keith, and Ed, as well as Ryan Fisher on bass.

Nothing new but the details are the thing. Much better and much more elaborate than the previous one, actually ~80% of the songs here are just great, some of them get to you from the very first listen and stay for good.

С точки зрения музыки и лирики альбом ничего нового не принес, но вот их сочетание вышло поистине отличным. И вот как раз «Evermore», не смотря на ее имя, я бы назвал титульной песней, задающей настроение всей пластинки.

"Echoes From The Underground" is probably the best album i've heard in 2013 so far. Completely awesome.

Who would say that VH could make their best album after 20 years of career. Echoes From the Underground is a masterpiece.

@NicilasErwin I agree with you, Pandora helps you find so many bands you never would of found without. On a side not, thier singer sounds sometimes to sound like Michael Stipe some songs.
