Velvet Cacoon was an American black metal/ambient band from Portland, Oregon formed in 2001. The band consists of two musicians, Josh (aka SGL) on guitar, vocals and drums and Angela (aka LVG) on guitar. The band is known for its particularly cold, melancholy and hypnotic brand of black metal, featuring quiet hissing vocals and repetitive, reverb-saturated guitar work.

Over the years the band has been surrounded by controversy for making a slew of false claims, including a string of fake albums and completely false band history. They also came under criticism for plagiarizing the works of Portland band Korouva and “releasing” them (spreading them around online) as their own demos.

Tony Little posed as Josh in the CD insert of “Genevieve”.

There are even rumours that VC and Korouva made an arrangement for the prank, but I am not informed enough to say what is true and what is not. All I can say is that you never know what to expect when it comes to these guys.

"People obviously haven't got any taste. " <----- I've known these guys since the start, and really, people are getting a little more uptight about their antics then they probably should. I don't see anything wrong with a bit of jokery, and VC never went overboard with it. Even when they "stole" those albums they never attempted to have them pressed, in fact, the thievery and subsequent revelation of it brought those bands an enormous amount of attention and interest, especially in the case of Korouva. But two can play at that game. Just ask Sempervirens who copped their name long enough to record and release their own "Velvet Cacoon" album.

"This band has a lot of haters. That's good. For the band." People obviously haven't got any taste.
