Virtually nothing is known about Veda Brown, one of the lesser-known singers on Stax’s roster in the early ’70s. She did manage to crack the lower regions of the charts with two of her four singles on the label, “Short Stopping” and the ballad “Don’t Start Lovin’ Me.” Brown was one of several talented but minor singers that could be found in the Stax empire alone, and while her work there is decent characteristic early-’70s Stax soul, there’s not enough to indicate that she necessarily deserved a wider berth. After a couple of subsequent singles on the Raken label, nothing was heard from her again. I am Mildred Pulliam Whitehorn’s aka “Veda Brown” daughter and this photo is not her!

    Um... who is that idiot in the picture? That is not my mother. Also, her hair is skinny and needs a few tracks. The real Veda would hook you up, whoever you are. This is the dumbest case of identity theft I've ever seen. FAIL.

    My name is Kenota L. Pulliam, Esq. I am the oldest daughter of Mildred Pulliam Whitehorn aka "Veda Brown". I would like to say that I am truly appauled that someone has decided to pretend to be my mother. I will take legal action against the individual in this picture, and the person or persons involved with this scandalous act. Only an idiot would think that they could get away with something like this. I would suggest that this site be revamped and the picture be removed immediately!
