About this album

Traces of Sadness is the second studio album from the Estonian all-girl band Vanilla Ninja. Released in 2004, it is also the last album to feature vocalist Maarja Kivi.
Singles from the album include “Tough Enough”, “Don’t Go Too Fast”, “When The Indians Cry”, and “Liar”. Music videos were made for the four singles; “When The Indians Cry” was the first video to feature Vanilla Ninja’s new vocalist, Triinu Kivilaan.

The album was successful in Europe, topping the charts in the band’s native Estonia and going high on the charts in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. The album’s success brought the girls into the spotlight and into permanent mainstream stardom.
The album is heavier in tone than their self-titled debut album, but still retains some of the pop sounds of the first album while blending them with the sounds of hard rock reminiscent of 80’s glam metal.
There are two versions of the album: the standard edition (blue cover) with 14 tracks and the limited edition (silver cover) with 24 tracks. Both albums come with the music videos for the songs “Tough Enough” and “Don’t Go Too Fast”. The limited edition adds the videos for “Liar” and “When The Indians Cry”.
Several songs from the album were featured on their Best Of compilation album, released in 2005, along with songs from Blue Tattoo: “Tough Enough”, “Don’t Go Too Fast”, “When The Indians Cry”, “Traces of Sadness”, “Liar”, “Don’t You Realize”, “Destroyed By You”, and the extended version of “Tough Enough”.
