The Van Swieten Society performs music from 1750-1850 on period instruments in myriad settings, from piano trio to piano octet and in chamber arrangements of symphonies.

Who are they?
The ensemble is based in the Netherlands. Artistic leader is fortepianist Bart Van Oort. Van Swieten Society consists of a variable group of musicians, depending on the repertoire that is to be played during a particular project. Among its members are:
- Franc Polman, violin
- Igor Rukhadze, violin
- Marion Moonen, flute

- Frank van den Brink, clarinet
- Bernadette Verhagen, viola
- Ruben Sanderse, viola
- Job ter Haar, cello
- Tomoki Sumiya, bas
- Bart van Oort, fortepiano

What music do they play?
Van Swieten Society plays masterworks from the great composers, but also endeavors to program works by less well-known composers from the period between Bach and Schumann. The combination of these musical ingredients results in creative programs. These can include a Schubertiade with fortepiano, strings, soprano and guitar or an evening around the Sons of Bach, to an overview of Beethoven’s world with exciting new repertoire like quintets by Frédéric Kalkbrenner (fortepiano, horn, and clarinet), or Ferdinand Ries (fortepiano, harp and strings).
