“Vampyre Doll started out last year (Summer of 2005) as three people who just wanted to be in a band. At first, we wanted to just play ‘traditional’ music (a~la AFI, the Cure, etc.), but since one of the members (Drummer, Nick) never really learned drums, we drifted in another direction toward that of Japanese rock and Indie music. Distance and travel issues had been, somewhat, preventing us from actually writing anything, so we decided to just send sound files over the internet and write parts for each other’s songs, and we found out that it works just fine for the music we’re making. We went for a while without a band name because we didn’t really need one at the time. We went through one or two (Umbra was one of them) before we changed our name to Vampyre Doll, which came from The Candy Spooky Theater’s website as a nickname for Jack Spooky. We still can’t play shows, even small ones, due to the fact that we’re short a few members, and some of our songs are pretty heavy in weird/tech/digital sounds, which we wouldn’t really have any way of playing live. Due to (What seems to be) the ‘weirdness’ of our music, and the fact that our songs are kind of all over the place, we haven’t been able to find anyone to fill the empty band member slots, but we’re always looking. We currently have a demo available, it has 13 tracks, and we aren’t charging a thing for it. (go to for information on that)”
