Biography

There are two bands going by the name “Valkyrja”:

1) Black metal band from Sweden.
2) Melodic heavy power metal band from Japan.

1. A Swedish band formed in Stockholm, Sweden in 2004. To date they have released three full-length album and 2 demos. Their most recent album, The Antagonist’s Fire, was released through World Terror Committee on November 11, 2013.

In March of 2005, the first aural offering was crafted under the title, Funeral Voices, a vicious 5 track EP presenting a fierce and relentless preview of what was yet to rise. Funeral Voices was re-released under a new title, Far Beyond, on cassette via Deathkrush Productions in September of the same year, including an additional 5-track studio session on the B-side.

In 2006, Valkyrja went through some line-up changes, as guitarist Joakim and drummer Skall were dismissed from the band. A. Hed stepped in on guitar and J. Wallgren joined on drums. Their debut album, The Invocation Of Demise, was recorded at Necromorbus Studio in March and April of 2007 and unleashed upon mankind in September via Northern Silence Productions (CD/LP).

Bass player J. Lindgren left the borders of Sweden, soon being replaced by M.A. in July of 2008. By the end of the year, Valkyrja signed a multiple album deal with Metal Blade Records.

Resemblance to Watain is not an indicator of being copy-cats or sellouts, that's just bullshit. Albeit similar, it is their own style. At times I get Zarathustra vibes as well.

Yes, they're quite similar to Watain and Orcivus, not sure where that dude pulled the Emperor comparison from though

V Yep they're definitely similar, but I'd argue they're much more extreme and more influenced by death metal, whereas Watain are more influenced by classic heavy metal.

The Antagonist's Fire sounds a lot like Watain. like a lost recording between Casus Luciferi and Sworn To The Dark.

i haven't heard their most recent album but i disagree with the earlier stuff being at all similar to that keyboard ridden flamboyant band.

Glorious black metal, same style as Emperor from "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk"

First, i wasn't happy with the new album, but now, i think it's pretty good. Almost like the older ones I think...

    Valkyrja's Antagonist's Fire (2013) = Ragnarok's Malediction (2012)

The Antagonist's Fire is arguably the best black metal album of the year. I also uploaded a much better photo, check it out: http://www.last.fm/music/Valkyrja/+images/95750129
