  • VNV Nation @ The Paradise

    18 Jul 2009, 13:42 by iunderwood

Fri 17 Jul – VNV Nation, Ayria, War Tapes, DJ Chris Ewen
Whenever VNV Nation comes to Boston, it always seems to be one of those shows that always sells out. No small wonder actually, considering how small the Paradise really is. I watched the show and spent most of the show moving to the beat up on the balcony.

The opener was awesome ... starting from Pro Victoria right into Joy! For a band with 7 studio albums out, there is an increasingly larger volume of older material. I would have really liked to hear something off Advance And Follow (V2), but it was not meant to be. Also, there was no Honour.

As with any concert, there were a couple of stand-out tracks. I'm a very big fan of Chrome and the crowd got really into it. Even the folks up in the back, who were by and large less animated than the floor started to sway a little. Nemesis was also done extremely well.

The second most fun I've ever had at a show ... next to their concert in Rochester, NY in 2007. …
  • Blackfield 2009 - what a weekend!

    25 Jun 2009, 17:18 by der_Karl

As an introduction to this year's Blackfield Festival exothermal, his girlfriend and I were visiting the Blackfield Warm-Up at Zeche Carl in Essen. This was mainly because of Seabound being on stage there - we hadn't seen them live yet.

The evening started with Soman - a rather technoid sounding one-man-show. Alas, it wasn't much of a show: Just one guy with a MacBook pressing keys and pushing buttons on stage. The music was actually quite dancable but nothing out of the ordinary and certainly nothing that would make a great live show.

Continuing with Absurd Minds the evening got better. Their performance was quite pleasing although they had a bit of a hard time to get the audience dancing and clapping their hands. It was quite evident that everyone was waiting for Seabound. But anyhow, they delivered a solid show - the addition of ex-Haujobb Daniel Myer for the last few tracks was a nice surprise as well.

As a first for Seabound they were headlining the evening. …
  • Halloween Afterparty @ FurPleasure 11/1/2008 playlist

    3 Nov 2008, 06:31 by DJ_Foxybits

Halloween at FurPleasure is a huge 3-day party and I was asked to help out by spinning a set, so I promised to do "three hours of 90's classic industrial stompiness." I think I did a good job and still got to sneak some stuff I wanted to play in, but my heart tells me this set was 'too much general overview.'

In terms of crowd, I had a great turnout, but not much audience participation. About halfway through, I had a 16-year old girl come in who blabbed about how much most furries were closeminded, wondered why I was playing music in German (Rammstein), and insisted I play some System of a Down. She left after I mentioned to her though I like System of a Down, they didn't fit the scope. After she was gone, I cleared the tension by asking everyone else whether they thought she was a Sony rep.
