This name covers at least two cases:

(1) Glaswegian lo-fi rock from the late 90’s, shown in picture at left. Three of the four members are now Projekt A-Ko.

(2) Popular Japanese manga, TV, movie and OVA series of the 1980s. Several related pop music and instrumental soundtrack CDs were released, including “Complete Music Box,” a 15-disc “perfect collection.”

Also been into them since th emid 90's Saw them about 8 times in Edinburgh/Glasgow. Any of y'all bargain binners found the first album on 12" "hologram" glitter vinyl. It's not a hoogram but it's pretty glittery!

Just bought 'Slain' from a bargain bucket for £2.99 after I was told some good things.. Have to admit I'm really loving it! Wish I'd been around when they were :(

Shocking how many people on here got into Urusei Yatsura through the bargain bin! Bought Siamese in early '96 myself and saw them about eight times.

I got into this lot after finding the Plastic Ashtray EP for 50p at a record fair in Barrow-in-Furness yeeeeaaaars ago. I was mildly obsessed with the anime, y'see. Anyway, 'Got The Sun' is one of the best songs ever.

"I reckon they would have been pretty great live!". They were! Saw them twice; first at the Arches in Glasgow on the "Slain By" tour and next at King Tuts on the "Everybody Loves" tour. A brilliant band; much missed. I like the Project A-Ko CD, though I think they will need a second guitarist to give these songs the justice they deserve.

Simply awesome. 'Slain' and 'We Are Yatsura' are both fantastic efforts. I remember finding the Slain record in a bargain bin in the late Tempest at a very cheap £3.99 and getting it home, giving it a spin...and getting hooked. It was definitely one of the best lucky dip purchases i've made! Seriously, I will never tire of this band and only wish I was older to have appreciated them when they were going. I reckon they would have been pretty great live! Still, theres Prokekt A-ko now - been meaning to get 'Yoyodyne' since it came out and still haven't. Shocking but Soon... :)

I'm in love with this band, why aren't they as big as Pavement? Plus they're Scottish - awesome!

The 'new project' mentioned by Electropapknit beneath me is 'The Violence Jack-off'. Meanwhile, 3/4 of Urusei Yatsura (Fergus, Elaine & Ian) finally have the first Projekt A-ko album ready for pre-sale orders. There's a link on their myspace page: http://www.last.fm/music/Projekt+A-Ko and it's just £10 (including P&P, wherever you are in the world). Continued support from Urusei Yatsura fans is appreciated. Thanks. Jacqui (I run the Projekt A-ko Myspace page for the band)
