Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Start, Up Up Down Down for short(er), were mainly a studio project headed by Steve Poponi, co-owner of recording studio, The Gradwell House in Southern New Jersey. They play a slightly technical, interesting, lyrically straightforward and just awesome nerd/math indie rock, in easier terms unclassifiable with obvious influences. The band is a collaboration of members from other bands and usually remains interchanging. They are based in Haddon Heights, New Jersey, United States and formed sometime in 2003.

Their name comes from a game cheat called the ‘Konami Code’, this code unlocks secret levels and secret weapons in certain video games made by the Japanese video game company Konami, mostly for the NES. A variation of this code, Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A B A Select Start, unlocked unlimited lives in the Konami game Contra on NES.

The group disbanded on August 16th, 2008, after playing a final show at the Audubon Auction House.

He's referring to Norick Eve, which was one of their side projects. It was released on Arbor Records' Christmas album in 2005. Check worstbandnamever.com at the bottom; "Christmas Sox," "Keep Them Turtlenecks Away," and "I Hate This Tree." I saw UpUpDownDown's last show in Audubon, NJ and it's something I'll never forget. They were a special band that will never be replaced.
