Good song - but really odd choice for the first single to be pulled from Rage In Eden. Could have gone with 'The Voice' first off and followed it up with 'I remember (death in the afternoon)'. Both more commercial than this. In fact the B-side of this 'I never wanted to begin' could have been a single.

Just listened to this again, this is not the version I heard the first time I commented ,its obviously a live version, and a good one.Went to see them last night at the Manchester Apollo ,they are fantastic and even though alot older they still sound great.

'definitely not a live version'?? can you not hear the crowd at the start and end? or the fact that midge is ever-so slightly off a couple of times? Anyway, enough of the pedantry; it's a fantastic song, perhaps my fave by them. Absolutely light years ahead of its time: by God, it's almost rap in places!!
