USA for Africa

USA for Africa (United Support of Artists for Africa), was the name under which forty-five U.S. artists, led by Harry Belafonte, Kenny Rogers, Michael Jackson, and Lionel Richie, recorded the hit single “We Are the World” in 1985. The song was a US and UK Number One for the collective in April of that year. The artists also won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year.

The considerable profits from the enterprise went to the USA for Africa Foundation, which used them for the relief of famine and disease in Africa; critics, however, claim that this money went directly to the (often military) governments of the affected countries rather than the people.

A recording of the live performance was released with the Live Aid DVD set released on November 8 2004.

Most of these singers are still alive except of course for Michael Jackson and Ray Charles..But they could just easily all get back together and record a new version even though it won't exactly be the same without MJ..

We Are The World is a pretty cheesy song and alot of the famous singers there thought so too but because of the fact that it had so many great singers there at one time is what made me like the song and gave me goosebumps when i would listen to it..Not only back then but even today as well..
