Dublin, Ireland (1976 – present)

U2 is rock band from Ireland which formed in 1976 in Dublin, Ireland. Since the band’s formation, they have consisted of Bono (real name Paul Hewson) (vocals, guitar, harmonica), The Edge (real name David Evans) (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), Adam Clayton (bass) and Larry Mullen, Jr. (drums, percussion). The band is the biggest selling alternative rock act of all time, having sold 150 million albums worldwide as of 2008. They have won 22 Grammys and were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2005. As of 2009, they have released 12 albums and 58 singles.

Foundation: The band originally formed in 1976 when Larry Mullen posted a bulletin in his school asking for musicians to form a rock band. The band then consisted of the four current members plus three additional guitarists, including The Edge’s brother Dick Evans (later a member of Virgin Prunes), Ivan McCormick and Peter Martin. According to legend, Bono originally auditioned as a guitarist but couldn’t play. He auditioned as lead vocals, but really couldn’t sing. He was, however, incredibly enthusiastic about the band, extremely charismatic, a great writer, and was strangely able to reach the audience when the band played, something he is known for still today. Bono will reach out into the crowd and dance or mess with someone in the crowd at every concert. He was kept as a member. The extra guitarists would soon leave the band and the group would go through the names “Feedback ” and “The Hype” before finally settling on U2.

Love the new album, but maybe U2 should've said hey you can download it by going to our iTunes page. That would have been more tactful of Apple and U2. I don't know why some people don't like U2's music.

New album was downloaded without my consent on my iPod. Fuck you, Bono, you old fuck, I don't want to listen to your new album. I'm sick of seeing your stupid fucking iTunes commercial where it's just your shitty band playing one of your songs that sounds like rusty knives being forced into my ears. Bono, please fuck off and quit trying to make people like your music. It's that bad, that the only way to get people to even listen to it, you had to force your new album onto them, for free. And even then, they still delete it. That's just sad.

I was a big U2 fan. The last album I bought was Pop, and even though many people consider it to be the worst of them all, I consider it to be the last U2 effort to make new music. Then All That You Can't Leave Behind came out and I was completely disappointed. From then on, I lost all interest in them and find their latest albums predictable and dull. I decided to give Songs of Innocence a shot, -since it was already on my library why not-. I was hoping to be surprised. It didn't happen. In my opinion, this album is an extension of the 3 previous albums.

Those of you who have Apple products should appreciate this free album. If you don't then why do you still have your Apple product? That's my question. Apple paid U2 for the free album not the other way around. SO PLEASE STOP HATING AND LET IT GO!!!!!!!!

I felt like someone took a shit on my doorstep with a note saying "enjoy the gift". If I could physically wash my phone without breaking it, I would.
