Biography

Wergea, the Netherlands (1998 – 2003, 2007 – 2007, 2009 – present)

Twarres is a folk/pop band from Wergea, the Netherlands who perform songs in both English and their native Frisian Language. Their songs are primarily lush, harmonic vocal pop with a focus on acoustic instrumentation such as pianos and violins.

The band was originally founded in 1998.

Original main band members:
- Johan van der Veen (1981) - vocals
- Mirjam Timmer (1982) - vocals and guitar

In December 2003, Johan left the music business. Mirjam decided to start a career as a solo singer as Mir.

In 2007 Johan and Mirjam wanted to reunite, but Johan got a muscle disease so he wasn’t able to perform. He was temporarily replaced by Auke Busman on vocals and guitar).

In 2009 Mirjam found her final new singing partner: Joost Bloemendal with help from radio DJ Ruud De Wild.

In 2011, Joost left and from now on Mirjam will be the only singer of Twarres.

    Hemelse stem. She couldn't laugh. <3 Zoek 'Die Melktert Kommissie' eens op, die maken ook zulke muziek, maar zingen in het Afrikaans (dochtertaal v/h Nederlands in Zuid-Afrika).

    Als ze dan toch weer gaan touren, dan doen ze dat ook maar voor mij;) Echt fantastische muziek!! Ik heb nog allemaal cd's van twarres liggen met gedownloade nummers dus ik heb nog aardig wat muziek van ze, en verder is er ook op internet en download programma's nog aardig wat te vinden hoor;) Fryslân 4 ever!! xx

    Twarres was eigenlijk een paar jaar te vroeg. Dit zou véél succesvoller zijn in het huidige muzikale klimaat (Amy McDonald, Room Eleven, het succes van Krezip op Pinkpop vorig jaar, enz.). Heb ze nog een nummer zien brengen in de show Staatsloterij Muziekland (dat was, in principe, een rondreizend podium).

    Dat klopt inderdaad. De samenstelling van Twarres is overigens wel veranderd. Johan van der Veen heeft 2 maanden geleden besloten om te stoppen met twarres. Zijn plaats is ingenomen door Auke Busman (een goede vriend van Mirjam die ze kent uit de muziekwereld.). Kheb nog niet gehoord hoe Twarres nu klinkt met Auke als zanger... dus ben ook erg benieuwd!

    Ja Twarres bestaat nog. Mirjam was alleen even het solopad opgegaan. Maar ik hoorde pas geleden dat ze weer samen werken aan iets nieuws. ^^ Dus ben benieuwd!
