Biography

Tsuneo Imahori (今堀恒雄), born 1962, is a Japanese guitarist and composer. He started to play acoustic guitar at age 12, inspired by British folk music from the likes of Bert Jansch, and later the work of Frank Zappa and Andy Partridge. In 1986 he formed the band Tipographica, with saxophist Naruyoshi Kikuchi and jazz pianist Akira Minakami. After 4 albums, the group disbanded in 1996.

After providing the soundtrack to Gungrave for the PlayStation 2 in 2002, the concept was subsequently developed into an anime series, also scored by Imahori. In addition to scoring the anime series, Imahori composed the music for Gungrave’s 2004 video game sequel Gungrave: Overdose, also for the PS2. He is perhaps best known in the US as the composer of several anime soundtracks, primarily Trigun, Gungrave and Hajime no Ippo, though he has also contributed tracks to Texhnolyze, Wolf’s Rain, and Cowboy Bebop.

今堀恒雄 is just his real name in Japanese, I'm not voting for it.

I've been looking for a guitar tab for Happy Ending from GunGrave...or the minor version (bitter ending). If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful.

The Trigun -Badlands Rumble- O.S.T. is great! I hope the movie will be as good as the music. They have to get the same people who did the series in English to synchronize the movie.

I don't think Yoshihisa Hirano's music sounds awful at all. He's just different from Imahori. That being said, the "Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger Original Soundtrack" features a blend of frantic rock, delightful orchestral and thoughtful piano music, while it's inclusive of some atmospheric, quirky and jazzy tracks too. It is a bit of a departure from the usual Hirano, so it's even more interesting. Most prominently, some of his influences are obviously from Romanticism here, as is evident while listening to "Friends Stay With Me", while he usually borrows form Baroque style. So I would highly recommend giving this soundtrack a second listen, as it is undoubtedly an interesting and inspiring work.
