Biography
East San Francisco Bay Area, California (2009 – present)
Troubled Coast is a post hardcore band from East San Francisco Bay Area, California. Formed in 2009, the band currently consists of vocalist Mike Scornaienchi, guitarists Cory Bardwell and Brandon Wark, drummer Tahm Altemus, and bassist Randy Staat.
They recorded their first full-length, titled 100 Miles From Home at The Atomic Garden Recording Studio in East Palo Alto, CA. A record label was found and in December of 2009, Troubled Coast released the 10” LP on Creator-Destructor Records.
A few months later they went back to Atomic Garden to record and self-release the Vagabonds EP, a slightly more melodic and progressive album that took a few steps away from the hardcore vibe. In late 2010, they went to Aaron Hellam at Castle Ultimate Studios for their latest project, a full length titled Letters. The album goes in a new direction, offering more clean singing and in some songs, a poetic lyrical style. The sound is varied, moving from upbeat and fast to slow and calm to heavy and dark. It features many guest talents, including cello and harmonica players and James Phillips (of Final Fight) on guest vocals. Letters was released on April 5th 2011.
I’ve Been Thinking About Leaving You was released January 12th, 2012 on Pure Noise Records, is the most recent release as of this writing, bringing more melodic, clean vocals which continue to counter the still-present abrasive screaming and it garnered positive reviews from various websites.
