About this album

The Crusade is the third album by heavy metal band Trivium. Released on October 10, 2006 through Roadrunner Records. It is considered a drastic change from their previous album Ascendancy by some critics. The album was produced by Jason Suecof and mixed by Colin Richardson. In the United Kingdom, the album was released on October 9, and was certified silver in for sales in excess of 60,000 copies. The album peaked at number 7 in the UK and at number 25 on Billboard 200 and it sold over 100,000 copies in the United States.

The album represents a drastic change in style from their previous album, Ascendancy, adopting a mostly sound, and having characteristics such as breakdowns and growled vocals featured in metalcore are kept to a very small minimum. As a result, vocalist Matt Heafy used a clean vocal style similar to James Hetfield throughout most of the record. Heafy justified this by noting that “the four of us were never into bands that scream and we don’t like any of the current bands that scream, so we asked ourselves why we’re doing it.” However, growled vocals would return as a regular attribute on the band’s next album, Shogun, as well as sometimes some breakdowns.

Lyrical themes on the album include famous killings. “Entrance Of The Conflagration” is about Andrea Yates’s murder of her five children, “Unrepentant” is about Nazir Ahmad’s murder of his three daughters and stepdaughter, “Contempt Breeds Contamination” is about the death of Amadou Diallo, and “And Sadness Will Sear” is based upon the murder of Matthew Shepard.

I really don't know why people hate on The Crusade. They barely scream on this album but the cleans are awesome. The instrumentation is a great improvement from Ascendancy and some of their lead guitar work. The riffs are epic, the drumming is just as good, there is an awesome bass solo and Matt's vocals don't disappoint and are complicated with great lyrics. It's different from their previous work but still good. This album sounds more a lot more thrashy than their other albums.

Gonna take on the bold stance that this has Trivium's best lead guitar work...plus the bass solos in the title track and Becoming the Dragon kick ass. The lyrics and vocals could have been refined for sure, shame it was rushed...could have potentially surpassed Shogun. [2] Totally agree.

Dubbing a few of these songs as "news metal" because of how the lyrics read more like news reports...think And Sadness Will Sear, Contempt Breeds Contamination and Unrepentant

I found this album/the band out through a "Freddy vs Jason" music video on youtube back in 2008 or 2009.

This album is underrated . İgnition, entrance of the conflagration, becoming the dragon,to the rats, the crusade... İ think Triviums thrash side is better.

A worship, or tribute to traditional heavy metal. Other metalcore bands make covers of heavy metal artists, Trivium create their own heavy metal album :)

too much Metallica worship on this album, the other albums have a more original feel to them, that's why i like the other albums way more

Well I personally find it hard to be objective if it comes to this album as it is the first I've heard from them and I found it really great. Well it's no Shogun but it's still a great album to which I like to come back from time to time

Seriously, this has similar techniques as Metallica but it doesn't sound LIKE Metallica. It shows more Metallica inspiration but there is not a hope in hell that Metallica will make anything LIKE this. This is Trivium.
