Sat 21 Jul – AvalandIan PooleyTrent Cantrelle
I wanted to see Daft Punk, but unfortunately it was sold out. I wondered how many people at the club were there for the same reason.
There was a $5 discount before 11PM for students, so I showed up early. I had to wait about 2 hours before the crowds started coming, and it wasn't long before the place was crowded beyond the point of being uncomfortable. What's worse, it was packed with people wearing shades, so I had to take mine off. The crowd was pushing and elbowing constantly, so I wasn't really able to dance for most of the beginning of the night. The music was decent, but not amazing, so I didn't feel bad about standing around anyway.
Around 2AM, the crowd was slightly thinner and the music got a lot better. I later found out that this was when Ian Pooley started spinning. He played mixes of Air's "Mer du Japon" and Feist's "My Moon My Man", and in general, his style was much more varied and interesting than any of the other DJs that night.
