Biography

Kristiansand, Norway (1994 – present)

Trail of Tears is a / band (with and influences) from Kristiansand, Norway. The band was formed in 1994 under the name of Natt (Norwegian for “Night”), but later changed its name to Trail of Tears in 1997, to reflect changes in sound and line-up.

Through most of their career the band emphasized the use of contrasting soprano vocals and death grunt vocals, but with the release of “Free Fall Into Fear” — in 2005 — the band switched this contrast mostly to tenor vocals and death growls, with rare soprano passages. As of 2009 they have released a total of six albums, the most recent being Bloodstained Endurance released May 27, 2009.

Kjetil Nordhus, Runar Hansen, Kjell Rune Hagen, and Jonathan Perez walked out in November 2006 due to bad organisation leading to monetary loss for all the members of the band and posted a statement on the Trail of Tears’ website saying the band had split up. Ronny Thorsen soon issued a statement saying they would in fact be carrying on without them and that they couldn’t have chosen a worse time to leave the band due to the upcoming tour for the album Existentia. All tour dates had to be canceled.

On February 1, 2007 it was stated that former Trail of Tears vocalist Cathrine Paulsen re-joined the band. The band was also confirmed for 2007’s Sweden Rock Festival, which was then followed with an extensive North American headlining tour alongside Echoes of Eternity and Unexpect.

I prefer Cathrine's earlier vocal style (i.e. A New Dimension of Might) [2]

I prefer Cathrine's earlier vocal style (i.e. A New Dimension of Might) to her sound on the new album. The production doesn't help matters either, but I feel like she sounds 'shouty' most of the time. While I know she's a talented lady, these songs don't exactly showcase that.

The new album is kinda eh... Middle-of-pack within their discography.

The new album is kinda weak, definately not going to listen to it often. Not a single memorable moment. But thats just my opinion. The last one, even though with the same new line-up, was better for sure. Nevertheless I feel sorry that the've disbanded.

Yeah surprisingly Catherine sounds a little out of tune here and there. Her delivery in general isn't very pleasant here, which is pretty disappointing after her awsum performance on Bloodstained Endurance. I do like the album though :D Eradicate (Y)

Oscillation is not bad, some nice melodies in there, some songs are pretty messy though. Loved the increased symphonic touch. Vocals have a rawer production this time and it went bad for Cathrine, Ronnie is doing nice. Overall a good final album, a continuation of Bloodstained Endurance ideas. 7/10

What a terrible ending for the band, I hope Oscillation is as good as Bloodstained endurance. The must have a good ending album at least, after all that dramatic ending

I agree with you. I sometimes listen to those albums, and when I'm doing this I wonder how people can have a hundreds and thousands scrobbles of this albums. ;)

Yeah, I (partially) agree, to be honest. I don't find the albums unlistenable, but her vocals are definitely my least favorite aspect of those albums.

I don't know how people can listen "Disclosure in Red" and "Pofoundemonium"... The Helena's voice is horrible in that albums, especially on "Profoundemonium".
