  • However, some tracks recorded in the early days of recorded music (1890s) don't feature a credited performer. What do we do then?
  • "there are almost always known performers". Almost always isn't good enough. Secondly, the performer might be so obscure that there is no point in making a profile for them, the piece itself can be way more relevant than any performer. Going to the "Traditional" artist in someone's library serves to show their favourite folk tunes, regardless of specific arrangements or interpretations. Really silly to call this a mistag when it's such a commonly used term in music.
