I think this is by far Townes's best song, it's what gripped me and made me listen to him, his more popular stuff seems more generic, his serious, sad stuff I feel the most heart breakingly genuine and on a different level.

Not from Rear View Mirror. Studio version--as usual, inferior to the live version, especially the one that's on RVM. Knowing how good this song can be, this version is almost unlistenable to me.

"Some people turn sad awfully young. No special reason, it seems, but they seem almost to be born that way. They bruise easier, tire faster, cry quicker, remember longer and, as I say, get sadder younger than anyone else in the world. I know, for I'm one of them."
