Crucify (4:58)

Cover of Little Earthquakes

From Little Earthquakes and 106 other releases

According to Songfacts, Amos penned this song after the failure of her synthpop band Y Kant Tori Read. In Crucify, she digs deep inside herself to reveal the discouragement of expectations never met, utilizing various religious symbolisms to expose her hurting psyche.

Every finger in the room was pointing at me, I wanna spit
In their faces then I get afraid of what that could bring
I got a bowling ball in my stomach, I got a desert in my mouth
Figures that my courage would choose to sell out now

I can't say anything about the substance of this song without feeling stupid. But I really love the blue velvet jumpsuit she wears while playing the piano in the official video.

Haha put this on a workout playlist with songs like Mr. Self Destruct (Nine Inch Nails), Ridiculoid(Cannibal Ox) and Lighthouse (The Roots) and it worked pretty well. How many other people can say they lifted weights to Tori Amos

tori albums like under the pink, little earthquakes and boys for pele defined my adolescence. I've loved her since... and the classical one she did recently is genius, absolute genius. I listened to it hundreds of times all winter and spring. Do yourself a favor and listen to Night of Hunters at least 4 times. While driving or walking or at home without distractions. It becomes more and more beautiful and poignant with each listen.
