Every song on this album ends the same way except for Don't Make Me Come to Vegas, I Can't See New York and Gold Dust. [2] I thought I was the only one who noticed that...

Her last truly great album in all aspects. A masterpiece.

It's better than I remembered, but I'm still ambivalent about this album, and can't help but see it as kind of a step down from FtCH and TV&B. Okay, it's got some amazing songs like I Can't See New York, Gold Dust and others, but there's not as much variety in songwriting compared to the electronicky alt-rock tendencies of FtCH/TV&B, the production goes for this ultra-mellow, samey sound that reminds me of Fleetwood Mac for some reason, and the album is so long the songs start to blend together into a kind of puddle of mid-tempo AOR-ish... thing (the stretch between New York and Gold Dust is particularly flat), something the great playing can't really manage to compensate for. I feel kind of bad about the fact that this album is more exhausting for me to listen to and saying tha it's more "boring" than TV&B, but... my opinion hasn't really shifted from repeated listening, so I doubt I'll ever come around to liking this as unabashedly as previous albums.

Wow, great observation punasivellin...I've never realized that. These long held notes are like a transition from one part of Scarlet's journey to the next one...

My favourite album of the '00s and my favourite of Tori's overall (it's a close call with Little Earthquakes though). Sublime.

Sounds so good when high. Is that a stupid comment? It also sounds so good while sober, and I really appreciate all the love on this shoutbox for this album. It's underrated it seems in some factions of EWF.

I agree with what you say about the middle songs with the exception of "Sweet Sangria." Such an awesome song.

I have a bittersweet relationship with this album. Sometimes I find the songs a little underproduced and some tracks are really boring (the ones between Crazy and Pancake, both included) but on the other hand, the rest of the tracks show Tori at her best as a composer and singer (A sorta fairytale, ICSNY, Gold Dust ♥ ) and the concept of the album as a sonic novel is very appealing. I know some people are going to disagree, but I think the album would be way better without those middle songs: why didn't she put some of the gorgeous Scarlet's hidden treasures instead?

niqart, she wrote "I can't see New York" prior to 9/11. But I agree that it's a great album.
