Steve's over the mean heavy shit, time to see how much of a softy he is.

I came in here expecting this to be a release from another (gayer) artist sharing the Torche name, but instead find an aesthetic that I find unappealing (cover art not done by John Dyer Baizley loldongs) SSSSSSSSSLLLLLLLLLLUUUUUUDDDDDDDGGGGGGGGEEEEEEE

For my taste they are a bit too pop. It's one of these bands that are in the limits of what I like. Not bad in any sense, it's a matter of not really touching my soul.

I'm a massive Torche fan, but wish they'd return (arf!) to the sound they had on In Return, which might be my favourite work by them. This, as an EP, is fine, a decent precursor to something more meaty. But there aren't really any stand-out moments until the last two tracks, whereas In Return as an EP was stuffed with great moments (the title tracks merging of pop-punk with riffy sludge, Tarpit Carnivore's bomb-note hugeness, Bring Me Home's sheer loveliness etc.). Bring on the new album, all the same!

I like this better than Meanderthal. Wish they still had the same grit as S/T, but all things must pass
