About This Track

Parabola is the name of the second single from Tool’s album “Lateralus”. It was released in 2002 as a promo CD only. On December 20, 2005, the song as well as the music video were released on a DVD single along with the DVD single for “Schism”. The DVD also contains an optional “dual” audio commentary on the video by Jello Biafra of Dead Kennedys fame. The dual commentary consists of two separate recordings of Biafra’s voice, one playing in each stereo channel. It is the band’s highest charting single.

Music video
In support of this promo single, a music video was released — clocking in at over ten minutes because of the inclusion of the 3-minute “Parabol” lead-in (a separate track on the album). It was directed by Adam Jones and, like other Tool videos, includes several abstract scenes (which can be seen on the single art). These include humanoids meeting and cutting pomaceous fruit, then vomiting a black liquid in a circle. Another scene, starring English musician Tricky, includes him dissecting a small biped and then wandering in the forest. It hardly met the criteria for being broadcast on mainstream music video stations, although some channels worked around this by cutting the “Parabol” intro.

And Parabol/Parabola which is a(n) Arc of some type.

Seeing tool is like a completely spiritual experience. You find yourself being immersed in the whole shebang - lights, band, music, videos, people. Freaking awesome

I drove 8 hours to see Tool in Virginia. The best show EVER. Stayed for the show, then drove home. Needless to say I was EXHAUSTED, but it was SOOOO worth it. If you have seen Tool, you know what I'm talking about.

This is what you call producing an entire song. It is composed of many changes and there was lots of thought that went into making it.

Who knows the video? When those four men spat on the table, I thought, How many money do they spend for some really good weed? And when that guy finally came into heaven, I thought, What else do they do they take and how much of it? It's one of the most psychedelic things I've ever seen ... But as Bill Hicks said, "Drugs have done some good things for us." And if my thoughts were right, here's to see it. I think, it's genious!
