You have to be kidding, this is one of his best later period albums. Back in the day, I was mostly into those raw punch-packing songs like In The Colosseum, but after years of listening, I must confess it's the ballads that really stand out, songs like Who Are You and especially Whistle Down The Wind, which I consider to be his greatest post-Swordfishtrombones ballad.

The worst Waits album, the only one I don't enjoy at all. Thoroughly annoying.

Just got this album, an original press LP from 1992. It sounds even better. And it didn't cost me £100+, lovely!

Excellent album. Maybe I'm less acquainted with Waits' work, but I really don't know what weak material ubermenschean is referring to.

Keith Richards co-wrote "That Feel", and plays guitar and sings on the track.

Overall I do not know why this album is so popular. I think that it is some of his weaker material, or at least side 1. It definitely picks up towards the end, though, and has some good ballad-y stuff.
