Biography

New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA (1997 – 2012)

Thursday is an band from New Brunswick, New Jersey, USA. Geoff cites the New Brunswick underground music scene from which Thursday emerged, particularly You and I, as having strongly influenced Thursday’s sound.

During their tenure, Thursday released six full-length albums
Waiting (1999 Eyeball Records)
Full Collapse (2001 Victory Records)
War All The Time (2003 Island Records)
A City By The Light Divided (2006 Island Records)
Common Existence (2009 Epitaph Records)
No Devolución (2011 Epitaph Records).

Band Formation and Waiting
Thursday was formed in 1997 by vocalist Geoff Rickly, guitarist Tom Keeley, guitarist Bill Henderson, bassist Tim Payne, and drummer Tucker Rule, at which time the band began playing basement shows in New Brunswick and the surrounding tri-state area. The band played their first “official” show on December 31, 1998 in Rickly’s basement alongside Midtown, Saves the Day and Poison the Well.

They recorded demos to hand out at shows and in the summer of 1999, teamed up with MP3.com for their first official release, the 1999 Tour EP that featured demos of songs that would be soon be found on their debut EP, Waiting, released December 6, 1999, on New Jersey-based Eyeball Records.

Full Collapse
Hesitant to join a larger label, but with full support from Eyeball Records, Thursday signed to Chicago, Illinois-based label Victory Records. The band’s relationship with Victory Records would be a troubled one, as the band and the label rarely saw eye to eye.

V I agree completely, Thursday is one of the only bands from my post-hardcore/emo music days that I not only can stand, but still enjoy and appreciate. I actually might appreciate them more now than I ever did.

thursday was honestly our generation's fugazi and it still blows my mind how underappreciated they still are, even after the ashes of the band have settled from their nuclear deconstruction of post-hardcore...i just tried to listen to a thrice song after like 7 years and had to turn it off halfway through because it was so repulsive, yet thursday was, is and always will be an eternal meeting of minds that really had something to *bring* to a genre, and i'll forever get emotional thinking about them

They've got a cover of 'Rape Me' coming out on a Nirvana tribute compilation along with Circa Survive and Daughters, amongst other bands. It's most likely something they've had recorded for a while, but it's still very cool.
