“The Show Must Go On” is a song co-written by Leo Sayer and David Courtney and first recorded by Sayer. It was released in the United Kingdom in 1973, becoming Sayer’s first hit record (reaching its chart peak of #2 in early 1974 in the UK Singles Chart),[1] and was included on Sayer’s debut album Silverbird. The song was covered by Three Dog Night, whose version was released in 1974, becoming a hit in the United States, peaking at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and sung by Chuck Negron.

It uses a circus theme as a metaphor for dealing with the difficulties and wrong choices of life. When Sayer performed the song when it was a hit, he performed it dressed as a pierrot clown. The opening motif quotes Julius Fucik’s “Entrance of the Gladiators” which is commonly associated with circus clowns.

Aah memories!!...This song was always playing on the jukebox at this bar 25 years ago nearby where my Band buddies and I were playing at the time..The waitress took a shine to all of us and wasn't. charging us for the beer and the booze cause we were in a band!!! .C'mon...For 3 months we frequentedly this place, thusly ...but would always tip her some twenties after she was telling us she was paying for her bf`s stay at a Rehab...She called us her "Circus Buddies" because of the song and actually told us that she was in charge of the Books and fudged em,so we could drink for free!..We invited her to hear us play, for free of course...Came back next year, she wasn`t around..Never saw her again....But we learned the chords, etc to this in her honor!...Geez ,looking back..What ever happened to her?..Sorry,sometimes I ramble on!
