Biography

Brooklyn NY, United States (2008 – 2009)

Thorns of Life (named after a line from Percy Bysshe Shelly’s “Ode To The West Wind”) were Blake Schwarzenbach (Jawbreaker, Jets to Brazil), Aaron Cometbus (Crimpshine, Pinhead Gunpowder, Cleveland Bound Death Sentence) and Daniela Sea of The Gr’ups, Cypher In The Snow, and the popular Showtime television drama, The L Word. They played their first show on Saturday, November 8th, 2008 at the Jerk House in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, New York but broke up sometime in early 2009.

Blake Schwarzenbach’s description of the band: “I can say only that it’s loud and tender and we’re called the Thorns Of Life. Whether it’s more Jetsesque or Breaker-like I honestly don’t know; It sounds like a storehouse of fond hatred from the last few years and in the now.”

Apparently it had something to do with Aaron Cometbus. forgetters sounds better, in my opinions. They supposedly have a 7" coming out soon.

Blake said nothing was recorded (on Facebook). It was just a rumour. There is, however, one bootleg recording: http://www.[spam]

Thorns of Life are no more. Blake started a new band with Kevin Mahon called forgetters.

Okay, a lot of rumors have come from a guy adding unsourced comments to their wiki page. This is the first instance I can see of some of the claims anywhere. Someone recently added an unsourced comment claiming that Aaron is out. Does anyone know anyone that knows anyone that can let us know?

"You can't compare this band to Jets To Brazil. It doesn't sound the same at all. Both are great bands. But Jawbreaker will always be Blake greatest band. " I agree to both of those statements, though Jets is a worthy contender to Jawbreaker in my opinion. This band is probably the most pop punk I've heard since Unfun, but it's still real nice. There's a lot of rumors floating around about the album. Some people say the recording is done, some people say they broke up. Any confirmations?
