Thomas Adès (born in London, 1 March 1971) is a British composer, pianist and conductor.

Adès studied piano with Paul Berkowitz and later composition with Robert Saxton at Guildhall School,London. He graduated in 1992 from King's College, Cambridge after studying with Alexander Goehr and Robin Holloway. His degree was classified as "double starred first", indicating outstanding academic distinction.     He's not that young. By his age Mozart, Schubert and Chopin were dead, Bach had finished most of his instrumental music, Beethoven was on his seventh symphony and Wagner was no one of consequence (as he ideally should have remained <.<) Concerto Conciso is the one piece I found unequivocally good.

    I'll concede that he can write very effectively for brass in an orchestral setting. But nothing of his has truly grabbed me yet, and the occasional descents into pure trite don't help at all. We'll see how it goes. He's young yet. And yes, hyped up, which doesn't help things either. The amount of people who sucker for that though...
